On July 1, 1867, only four provincesOntario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswickmade up the new Dominion of Canada. The rest joined and were formed in the years that followed. However, Canadian sovereignty wasnt achieved until 1982.

And this year isnt an anniversary only for Canada. Montreal is celebrating 375 years since Fort Ville-Marie was founded in 1642, and the NHL has been around for 100 years, as well.
